As you all know I am a proud member of Crowdtap and as such I am faced with interesting challenges at times. Today's challenge was to create a flower from Kleenex Brand Tissues, specifically a carnation. I found a wonderful tutorial on The Mother Huddle but I couldn't find my floral tape so I came up with a somewhat different method. Instead of using floral tape, bobby pins, and flower stems, I used floral wire.
On the tutorial from The Mother Huddle you are instructed to use 2-4 tissues, the author uses 3 tissues for her beautiful flowers so I started out using 3, however I found that 3 was a little too bulky. I dropped it down to using 2 tissues instead.
Make sure that you align your edges and fold each Kleenex in half as it is folded in the above picture. Then lay the second Kleenex on top of the first and fold accordion style. Determine how long you want your flower stems to be, I used a small mason jar as a vase so I made sure my stems were long enough to hold my flowers in the jar. Cut the wire just a little longer than needed and wrap around the middle of the accordion folded tissue. Tear the edges of the tissue off making sure to tear all of the folds. You can make small or large flowers depending on the amount you choose to tear. The less you tear the bigger your flower will be.
Next, color the edges with marker and then separate each tissue pulling toward the middle. Be sure not to rip your tissue. Once you have pulled all of the tissues apart fluff your flower and you are finished. Repeat until you have made the amount of flowers you desire for your bouquet. You can make them any color you would like.

This is a wonderful craft for children to make and it will keep them busy for some time! They think the flowers are really cool, well at least my children did.
Please share your photos in the comment section, I look forward to seeing all of your beautiful creations!
