Good things come to those who wait. It's an old adage, but so very true. I hear many times from many people that my husband and I are the cheapest people some have ever met, and we are, it's true. We make conscious decisions about every single penny we spend. We decide if what we are spending our money on is really something we need, something we want, or something that we could live without. That does not mean that we never buy luxuries, or that we never make a spontaneous purchase but we have a budget for such things and even those things are thought about in the moment.
You have to live like no one will to be able to live like no one can.
I learned a lesson from two of my very prosperous and extremely wonderful friends. They are both doctors, and do very well for themselves but they were not born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Instead they got where they are today because of their hard work, dedication, perseverance, and sacrifice. They have become my mentors as well as my friends and it was because of them that I learned the lesson that you have to live like no one will to live like no one can.
Now I realize that can be a little confusing, so I will break it down. It took me awhile to become a believer in the saying but I put it into practice now and there is hard truth behind it. I am currently a college student and in order to keep my GPA up I have chosen to make college my career. I do not work outside of our home. Instead I stay at home with my children and dedicate a large portion of my day to homework. In return I have achieved straight A's so far, which is something I am very proud of. However, in the same token we live paycheck to paycheck. I could go to work and make life a little more comfortable, however if I did so my grades would suffer. I am living like most people won't in order to one day live like most people can't.
It is a struggle, it is stressful, but it is do-able. We live within a pretty strict budget and we make it work. We do not go without the necessities we only sacrifice some of the luxuries. Instead of driving a brand new vehicle I drive a 2007 Kia Optima and my husband drives and old Ford Ranger for a work vehicle. We also own a workhorse, as we like to call her; she's a 1996 Dodge Ram and she's meant for hauling everything we need to haul. So instead of paying a high car payment which would require me to get a job and sacrifice some of the family time and homework time I have, we have chosen to drive older vehicles for now.
We do not live in the most wonderful home in the world, but our house is comfortable. I have found ways to decorate that do not require me to spend thousands of dollars. (You can find some of those ways in the Crafts section of this blog.)
Our food is cooked at home for the most part because eating out is just too expensive. But one day because of our hard work, our dedication, and our sacrifice; because we were willing to live like no one will, we will be able to live like no one can.
My hope is that you see the value in this as well. Dreams take time and dedication to achieve, but they are well worth achieving!
Enjoy.
